From Michele: This story is a bit different than others that have been published so far. Yet, it comes with a great message for those within and outside of the healthcare system. Because let’s face it… doctors have feelings just as much as we do. And it’s oftentimes hard for them to deal with the expectations to be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes… even doctors.
So let me share May’s thoughts on what it feels like being a health professional and let her touch on what it means to her. Can you relate to her?

“Displaced.”
How many times do we feel as healthcare workers that we are trying to be the perfect bride? How many times have you felt like you are trying to maintain a perfect composure and presence in a rough and ugly environment?
Of course it’s always easy when the setting is perfect , days when everything goes well. But when everyone’s expecting you to be perfect, wear the bride costume 100% of the time… well it’s impossible.
Healthcare workers are humans, not Gods and not perfect brides. We should strive to do our best, but when we fail we hope to have the support of others around us to extend grace, forgiveness, to lift us up so we can shine again for our colleagues and patients.
Grace is far more beautiful than the ugly wrath of unforgiveness. Grace extended becomes “iron sharpening iron”, and promoting positive growth. With so much discussion about burn out, violence in the workplace, healthcare worker abuse.. Let’s remember that as humans it’s ok if there are days when we can’t wear the white dress . Let’s extend grace to those who need help putting the white dress back on.
