They say to start where you are, to use what you have, and do what you can, yet oftentimes we all rush into “fixing” ourselves rather than taking the time. Instead of focusing on the little steps and changes we can make each day, we oftentimes go all in, only to give up. That’s why it’s so important to take each day a step at a time. Make changes that are healthy and sustainable!
So on that note, fruits and veggies… what are your thoughts? Do you have a hard time getting the recommended amount in per day? Do you need help?

So You Want to Incorporate More Fruits and Veggies, You Say.
So chances are you are seeing the recent studies that are popping up in the news. “Not eating enough fruits and veggies kills millions of people every year,” “Eating Enough Fruits and Vegetables Can Prevent Millions of Deaths Each Year“, etc. The list goes on and on.
This information makes you want to eat more fruits and veggies, as you can conclude that there are many benefits of fruits and veggies that you are missing out on.
Sounds easy enough, but in order to incorporate more fruits and veggies, and to keep them in, it’s SO important to educate yourself and find out WHY you should incorporate them into your routine.
Because sometimes you need to look at food in another way than only something you should include.
One thing that often helps is looking into each food individually and seeing what it does in the body. (And this chart is a good place to start FoodInsight.Org).
Just by looking at this, you could see that there is lycopene in tomatoes and watermelon which is great for prostate health and beta-carotene in carrots which prevents cell damage.
This chart allow you to look at food in another way than society does. You can look at it as it should be, a way to live your best life and as long as you could.
But How Do You Add Fruits and Veggies In?
You may like fruits and veggies, or you may not. Either way, there are easy ways to add them in without recognizing them. So look below for a few ways to add more into your day. Listen to all and take whichever work best for YOU in your day.
#1: Infuse Your Water
You may have seen this article about how to stay hydrated, but if you haven’t, one of my favorite ways of including fruit is to use it chopped up in my ice cold water. It’s a great way to jazz up your water and also to keep your fruit cold.
#2: Salads
If you saw my Instagram, you probably have noticed that I’m a fan for adding fruit (or veggies) to salads. SO GOOD. All you really need is spring mix, some kind of fruit, cheese (or cottage cheese), nuts, and a bit of dressing. It’s an easy way to add more fruit into your day.
#3: Prep Roasted Veggies & Add A Serving
You may have also read this article about how to roast veggies that are lower in fat, but if you haven’t check it out. Roasted veggies are so easy to prep for the week ahead and store in a Tupperware or glass jar. Having them prepared and ready to go makes you more likely to eat them. Just add a serving or two to your salad, your breakfast, etc.
#4: CAULIFLOWER
Have you ever added cauliflower to your smoothies and/or your oatmeal? If not, it’s such an easy way to make it more filling without much of a taste. Additionally, you can always choose to sub out the regular pizza crust with cauliflower pizza.☺️
#5: Add it To Breads
Banana blueberry breads, banana muffins, fig protein muffins… I’ve done all of these. Oftentimes you can add a bit of fruit to a recipe, even if it’s a little bit. (Like I said, all it takes is a little step!)
#6: Smoothies
Chocolate cherry smoothie, anyone?
You got my point, smoothies are a great way to add more veggies and fruits into your day. I recently made this chocolate protein frosty with a banana mixed in. It was so good. Highly recommend.
But…
If you don’t like making smoothies and/or don’t have time, I also recently tried Splendid Spoon which delivers smoothies to you. Unlike many other smoothie companies these products are made with simple ingredients.
