When something is old and destroyed your first instinct might be to throw it out as you don’t need it anymore. Yet what I’ve learned throughout my life is that you can make things better than they ever were before.
Wait… what?
I know it sounds a bit crazy, but it’s true. You can take your life and make it better than before… I’ve done that. And in a similar manner, you can take an old piece of furniture and make it look brand new!
So today on the blog, I want to showcase how to take an old mosaic table that someone left for garbage and make it look brand new. It’s easy peasy to do and I hope that it inspires you to try to do it too!
For this Project You Will Need:
- Old Table/Piece of Furniture
- Sanding Block
- Hand Sander (this one is on SALE!)
- Wet Washcloth or Rag
- DecoArt Outdoor Living Paint (this is the color I used!)
- Paint Brushes (this is the line I used!)
- Sealant/Varnish
- Screwdrivers to disassemble
Steps:
Step #1:
Once you have chosen a piece of furniture to update, take it apart if possible to make it easier to paint. Use proper screwdrivers to do so.
Step #2:
Take a hand sander and make sure to sand the wood surface down. Lightly sand it so that the new paint will “stick.” If desired, you can utilize a sanding block, but it will take much longer!
Step #3:
Wipe the surface off with a WET washcloth or rag. Make sure to get all wood shavings off the piece of furniture.
Step 4:
Once completely DRY, apply one coat of DecoArt Outdoor Living paint (making sure that it doesn’t glob up). Let it dry for at least 4 hours.
Step #5:
Repeat step 4 one or two times until completely covered with paint.
Step #6:
Let it completely dry and add a coat of DecoArt DuraClear Gloss Varnish.
Step #7:
Repeat step 6 as many times as desired (depending on the use, you may want to add more for extra protection.)
Step #8:
Let it dry.
Side Note:
** If there are metal components, as there are in this product, I highly recommend utilizing a SPRAY PAINT with a hammered appearance. Some of these spray paints go right over rusted metals, making it an easier and quicker project. The hammered look is easier than matte spray paints for spray painting beginners!
Ending It Off:
So easy peasy, although it does take a bit of time. But once done, I promise you that it will be worth the time.
P.S If you update your furniture, please tag me on Instagram! I’d love to repost some of them on my Instagram!
With Love Always,
Michele
