Maya Angelou once wrote, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” And when it comes to staying hydrated this season, I think it’s about time we know how to DO BETTER.
So what better way to kick off the season then with some new ideas to keep you hydrated throughout the season. You don’t have to rely just on plain water anymore… look at these ideas and DO BETTER… stay healthy and stay hydrated!
Creative Ways to Stay Hydrated All Summer
#1: Jazz up That Water
As the weather gets warmer, plain water can seem like a chore to drink as it gets repetitive. Oftentimes, we allow this to get in the way of staying hydrated… but not anymore. This season, you can “jazz” up that water… Not sure what I mean? Here are four ways to add some pizazz to those water bottles this season.
a.) Add Fruit: Strawberries, oranges, apples, basil, pears… the options are endless. You can infuse water with your favorite fruits, herbs, etc. to keep yourself hydrated and healthy. I personally like chopping an apple up and putting it in a cup of ice-cold water. By doing so, you are able to keep your morning or afternoon snack fresh inside your cup (until you are already to eat it!)
P.S. I use these ALL the time.
b.) Add a Tea Bag: Tea is another option that allows you to switch up your plain water this season. You can have it hot or cold…. Or infused with fruit. Such an easy peasy option!
c.) Infused Ice Cubes: If you like your water slightly sweeter, you can chop whatever fruits and veggies you like and add them to water. Then you can pour them in an ice cube tray and freeze them to be used later! (**You can add them to juice or water and they will add some flavor as they melt.)
Haven’t Tried These, but they look neat! They are BPA Free and Come With Lids!
d.) Mixes: It’s always an option to buy a powdered mix of lemonade or drink and have it on hand. And while this option is controversial for many, due to added sugars and fake sugars, it’s still an option for many. For some, who have a hard time staying hydrated, this may be a GOOD option. As always, it’s YOUR job to find what works best for YOU.
#2: Alternative Options to Water
a.) Juice: While juice is also controversial for many due to the sugar content, it can always be an alternative that provides you with some vitamins. But as always (and with any product) it’s important to go to the store and compare labels. Look at the serving sizes, the sugars, and the ingredients!
b.) Broth: Bone broth, chicken broth, vegetable broth, etc… the options are endless. The broths add to your hydration levels and if you choose bone broth, you also add a bit of protein!
(P.S. Make sure you get a good brand. I’ve had several that I did not like. Right now, these are my favorites: Bare Bones Organic Bone Broth & Kettle & Fire Bone Broth
c.) Milk: There are so many varieties of milk to choose from… Skim milk, almond milk, cashew milk, etc… The list goes on and on! All of these options are good ways to stay hydrated. Your choice of milk depends on what you like and what you need. Some are higher in calcium while others are higher in fats. Check the label and see what works best for you.(**P.S. A great way to jazz these up is by freezing coffee in ice trays and adding them to the glass.**)
d.) Smoothies: Smoothies are a great option as a breakfast or a snack. You can mix frozen banana with almond milk and peanut butter. You can also take protein powder, milk, and add whatever other fruits to it. Smoothies are a great way to add in whatever you need… whether that be protein, carbs, fat, etc.
You can even get them delivered to your door!
#3: What To Eat to Stay Hydrated
Sometimes we don’t feel like drinking anything. Lucky for you, there are foods that you can eat. These foods help hydrate you when you would rather eat something then to drink.
And while there are many, here are a few: cucumbers, celery, watermelon, zucchini, iceberg lettuce, strawberries. (Source: https://health.clevelandclinicy.org/dehydrated-these-7-foods-will-satisfy-your-thirst-and-hunger/)
